IF I CAN YOU CAN
If I Can You Can is a rollicking, true story of mind blowing success and dismal failure. It is a tale of happiness and heartbreak which drifts from the cut-throat competitiveness of sport played at international level to the unexpected tenderness and sensitivity of a group of Chilean prostitutes. It tells of the thoughts that pass through the mind of a seventeen year old boy while he struggles to keep the camp fire burning in order to keep predators at bay in the dead of night in the African bush. It is about the excitement of spearing large game fish in open, unprotected waters where you never know when you are going to come eyeball to eyeball with a large cruising shark. It is also about the indescribable feeling of pride at winning the national junior boxing title after an unfulfilled childhood. Then there is the story of Betsy, the little bantam hen who, even though she was shaking with fear, was prepared to put herself out as bait for the circling hawk in order to save the lives of her chickens and about the incredible bond of friendship between Mulligan, a massive seventy-five pound Bull Terrier and Pissycat, a petite black Manx queen. The story goes on to describe the most successful method of picking up gorgeous chicks on the sun-dremched beaches of Durban, South Africa's premier holiday resort. It also tells what it is like to climb to the top of your sport and the folly of staying in past your sell-by-date with the inevitabe long slide down until you are left with two options - sit around wallowing in self-pity and cling to past glories or grab the rest of your life with both hands and live every minute of it.
